I finally had a Wednesday when I did not have any meetings scheduled with students, so I worked from home instead (Wednesday's the only day that I don't teach any classes, but it's still been filled with meetings this semester!). I didn't get a lot of "work" work done, but my mind was stuck on… Continue reading i wrote a pattern (or 4?) yesterday!

i made myself a hat!
And it isn't the Bronntanas hat I mentioned in a previous post - I actually ended up ripping that out, because the stitch pattern just didn't look good in the yarn I was using. No, instead, I made myself a "grown-up" version of the hat I've been making for M these last couple of years:… Continue reading i made myself a hat!
beautiful girl in a sunbeam [313.365]
Took advantage of a rare still moment for M (she was watching Elmo's Potty Time, ha!). The light was just perfect. Gosh, this kid.
driving at wegmans. [312.365]
The car cart makes Wegmans trips slightly less miserable for M (and thus, slightly less miserable for M's parents!). It's always a relief when we can snag one.
a new hat. [311.365]
I took the time between my two recitations on Friday to finish knitting the "grown up" version of M's hat that I was making for myself. Turned out pretty nice, eh?
i have wonderful friends.
Remember right after Rhinebeck, when I was sad because I'd not bought myself anything (in particular, a mini-skein set from Bartlettyarns), and had just endured a hellacious 6 hour drive as a toddler punching-bag? Well, Yarny Old Kim decided that I needed one of those mini-skein sets after all, and sent one to me, along… Continue reading i have wonderful friends.
#tbt the FIRST time M voted with me ;) [310.365]
This picture still cracks me up. M's been voting with me since the 2011 elections :)
a kind of hilarious “FO” photo…
A couple of weeks ago, my diploma arrived in the mail. Since I defended in the summer, my official degree conferral took place at a board meeting in October, though I can still walk in the Commencement in May (and since I still live here, I probably will, if my advisor's interested in participating!) So,… Continue reading a kind of hilarious “FO” photo…
things i make for maddy: mittens!
I decided to use the leftovers from M's hat to make her a pair of matching mittens. I traced M's hand, and used it as a "template", knitting the mitten from the top down: They were a really quick knit...I was soon onto mitten #2: The mittens have a row of eyelets above a short-rowed… Continue reading things i make for maddy: mittens!
lost mitten, found! [309.365]
M's teacher greeted me at the door with this mitten - she'd found it in her bag when she got home, and realized it was M's handknit mitten. Sneaky kiddo, hiding mittens in her teacher's bag! I'm just so relieved that it was found. I crocheted a chain and threaded it through the eyelets so… Continue reading lost mitten, found! [309.365]
Super Madrigal 2.0 gets a cape from mama!
This kid. How I love her! Madrigal decided a few weeks back that she wanted to be "superkitty" for Halloween. She was very particular about what this would involve: kitty ears, and a purple and red cape. We took her to Joann fabric, where she picked out the particular purple and red fleece colors that… Continue reading Super Madrigal 2.0 gets a cape from mama!
we voted! [307.365]
We voted after work today (so dark outside!). M "helped" me vote, and got a little sticker, and she adorably kept calling herself a "little voter". Kiddo, just 16 more years and you'll be able to cast your own votes instead of trying to grab the marker out of mama's hand while she votes. (Poor… Continue reading we voted! [307.365]
bake sale donation! [306.365]
We donated 2 of the mini apple pies, plus a dozen chocolate chip cookies (we kept the other dozen for ourselves, ha!) to M's school to use for their Election Day Bake Sale.
first (mini) apple pie! [305.365]
We did a TON of baking on Sunday (some of it our usual weekly baking, some extra stuff for M's school's Election Day bake sale). One of the things I decided to tackle was apple pie - we had a bunch of apples left over from apple-picking that needed to be used NOW, and I… Continue reading first (mini) apple pie! [305.365]
super madrigal 2.0 [305.365]
By Saturday, M had decided she was "Super Madrigal 2.0" rather than "superkitty", and insisted on running errands with us in costume. She was not the only toddler still wearing a Halloween costume in Wegmans, and we got lots of compliments from folks on her cape and hat.
