This kid and her non-napping. She's so clearly tired but napping is for suckers, apparently.

pride. [200.365]
Our little family marched in the Pride Parade this afternoon with a group from our university. It was great! M did amazingly well, we had fun with our friends, and it was good to be there as allies. (Well, not JUST allies - I mean, I do identify as bi, but being happily married to… Continue reading pride. [200.365]
bagels! [199.365]
I walked to Brueggers to pick up bagels for us to eat for lunch, mostly because my parents had gotten bagels with us while they were here and there was some leftover cream cheese to be used up. Mmm, Everything bagels from Brueggers. It was a beautiful day, and so lovely for the walking, but… Continue reading bagels! [199.365]
tbt to bench monday. [198.365]
Since everyone seemed to be throwing back to Bench Mondays (ah, the golden age of Flickr), I thought I'd pick this one, from when I was studying for my qualifying exams. Seems appropriate for the week after my successful defense. I had a Skype interview for a position with the writing program up at the… Continue reading tbt to bench monday. [198.365]
me and my zoo buddy. [197.365]
Yesterday the weather was gorgeous, and M asked to go to the zoo after her nap (which she did not take), so I obliged. I decided to wear her in the Onya, knowing she'd want in and out a bunch, because it's a hell of a lot easier for me to wrangle the carrier while… Continue reading me and my zoo buddy. [197.365]
squares number five and six
I've actually got TWO new Mitered Crosses Squares to share with y'all! I bound off and then wove in the ends of Square Number Five in the car on the way to Ohio a couple of weeks ago and finally took a photo of it this morning: Love those little pops of hot pink! M… Continue reading squares number five and six
my little napfighter. [196.365]
No nap yesterday, either (though I thought she might be trying to sneak one at the base of the slide, ha!). So we went on a 2 playground walk in the afternoon because the thought of being stuck in the house with an un-napped M for the remainder of the afternoon made me want to… Continue reading my little napfighter. strawberry-picking!
My parents came to visit for my defense, and on Sunday, we all went strawberry-picking at Burch Farms. It was a rainy day, so we got a little wet, but the berries were very good, as our official Taster could attest :) M *loves* strawberries! And she's fascinated by eating food she picked herself. We… Continue reading strawberry-picking!
knitting! [195.365]
It was a strange but wonderful feeling to have the house ALL TO MYSELF Monday morning, and not have any work hanging over my head. So I knit. It was great. Then M came home from her school camp (which is only in the mornings for the summer) and oy, it's seeming like she's in… Continue reading knitting! [195.365]
oh, hey, I have a Ph.D now!
I defended this Thursday, and it was great. For the first part of my introduction before my talk, my advisor read the opening paragraph of my personal statement from when I applied to grad school here, which was embarrassing but in a good way – I was such an earnest little language-dork! Then he proceeded… Continue reading oh, hey, I have a Ph.D now!
strawberry picking! [194.365]
Our official Taster, sampling the goods while we picked strawberries at Burch Farms on Sunday with my family and some friends of ours from M's school. It was rainy, but the berries were great! It was so nice to get out and do something productive but fun now that the pressure of dissertating/defending is off!
swinging with grandpa. [193.365]
I took my parents with us on our usual 2 playground walk this morning while A went on a run. My dad taught M how to pump her legs on the swings! (Which I've tried to teach her several times but somehow it kind of stuck today!)
on the stoop. [192.365]
On Friday, my parents and I took M to the Museum of Play so that they could see how wonderful the membership they gave us for Christmas really was as a gift. We didn't really see the whole museum (you kind of can't, in one visit, especially one visit with a toddler), but we did… Continue reading on the stoop. [192.365]
i did it! [191.365]
I earned my Ph.D! The defense went well and I don't want to forget it so I'm going to write a bit about it here. For the first part of my introduction before my talk, my advisor read the opening paragraph of my personal statement from when I applied to grad school here, which was… Continue reading i did it! apple cake. [190.365]
I baked an apple cake on the eve of my defense, to share with my committee as a "thank you". I gave my advisor the recipe (it's a family recipe, passed down from my great-grandma Alice). My advisor loves this cake. It's the one I traditionally bake for A for his birthday (which is in… Continue reading apple cake. [190.365]
